Happy 10th Birthday First Community!

Colleagues from across First Community Health and Care came together to virtually party today (Wednesday) to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the organisation’s formation.

The exciting milestone was marked with an online party where staff past and present, partners and a variety of stakeholders shared their thoughts and anecdotes of First Community’s evolution and wishes for the organisation’s next 10 years and beyond.

Determined schoolboy with cerebral palsy raises over £1,400 for NHS paediatric physios

A six-year-old boy with cerebral palsy has walked and cycled 70 miles to raise over £1,400 for the paediatric physiotherapy unit in Horley at which he is treated.

Joseph Hodgson was born with cerebral palsy and has left hemiplegia - which is the paralysis of the left side of his body – and affects his left leg and foot as well as his left arm.

New web pages for coping with minor illnesses and injuries in babies and children

The Healthy Surrey website now provides parents and carers with advice and information on how to manage minor illnesses and injuries in babies and children.

Fiona Whitaker, Senior Commissioner for Paediatric Services at Surrey Heartlands, said: “When babies and children are unwell it can be a really worrying time for parents and carers and it’s important that they know when to seek help, as well as being able to treat minor illnesses and injuries safely at home.

You can also access your COVID Pass which can be used to demonstrate your Covid-19 status, both vaccination and testing, for travelling or attending events. You can check your own vaccine and testing status whenever you want or need to from a tablet or smartphone.

School Nurses support local Junior Citizens event

Children and Family Health Surrey proudly took part in the Reigate and Banstead Junior Citizen Scheme, coordinated by Child Safety Media which ran from 5 -16 July at the Woodhatch Centre, Reigate. 

The aim of the event was to teach children about important issues that are often overlooked by the curriculum, such as personal safety, water safety, rail safety, emotional health and fire safety.

NHS patients, staff and visitors must continue to wear face coverings in healthcare settings and follow social distancing rules.

Covid-19 restrictions will end in many settings in England from 19 July 2021.  However, Public Health England’s infection prevention control guidelines and hospital visiting guidance are set to remain in place for all staff and visitors.

First Community’s Covid-19 Rehabilitation Team were highly commended in the Respiratory Quality Improvement category at the Kent, Surrey and Sussex (KSS) Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) Awards 2021.

The KSS AHSN Awards celebrate healthcare excellence across Kent, Surrey and Sussex focussing on collaborations, partnerships and innovations that help the regions accelerate their response to the NHS Long Term Plan.
