The results of the annual NHS Staff survey have been released and show that the patient really is at heart of the services delivered by First Community Health and Care.
Recently appointed Chief Executive Sarah Tomkins said: “I am delighted that over 73% of our staff took the time to share their views on working at First Community. This rich insight into the feelings and experience of our staff helps me shape the future plans for First Community and gives me the knowledge I need to make First Community an even better local health care provider to work for, partner with and receive services from.
Some results which shine particularly bright and show that the patient really is at the heart of everything we do include:
- If a friend/relative needed treatment 85% (compared with 77% average score amongst community trusts) of staff would be happy with standard of care provided by this organisation
- 81% (compared with 70% average score amongst community trusts) of staff would feel confident that the organisation would address concerns about unsafe clinical practice
- 83% (compared with 71% average score amongst community trusts) of staff feel safe to speak up about anything that concerns them in the organisation.
Sarah continued “I must now focus on how we can get these scores closer to 100%!
First Community is a listening organisation therefore my leadership team and I will now take action to address the areas where our staff have told us we need to focus. This is primarily around having realistic time to do the job. We always go above and beyond for our patients, children and families but we need to look at ways we can continue to deliver first rate care but in a more efficient way. We will work with our staff, partners, and patient representatives to identify how we do this and ensure we have adequate resources and processes in place to continue to deliver first rate care, by first rate people at first rate value.”
