First Community’s Falls Prevention Service provides a Better Balance Class for adults.
About First Community’s Better Balance Class
First Community’s Better Balance Class is delivered at the YMCA Redhill and is available for adults at risk of falls to help improve their strength and balance. The class, delivered by healthcare practitioners, also includes educational topics such as getting off the floor, good nutrition and hydration and fear of falling strategies.
Class information:
- Day/time: Monday mornings 11am – 12am
- Venue: YMCA, Princes Road, Redhill, Surrey, RH1 6JJ
- Duration: Course of exercises run in 12-week blocks.
Better Balance Class referral criteria
Referrals can be made directly from GPs and First Contact Practitioners for patients that meet the following criteria:
- Registered with an east Surrey GP practice
- At risk of falls, or had a minor fall
- Gait and balance problems
- Able to get to the YMCA, Redhill independently
- Able to mobilise independently with a maximum aid of one walking stick indoors or 3/4 wheeled walker outdoors.
If you would like to be referred please speak to your GP.
GPs should ensure that patients fit the above criteria and complete the First Community’s Falls Prevention Service Referral Form clearly stating that the patient is for the Better Balance Class only and the team will add them to the waiting list for the next cohort.
Please note, patients referred to the Better Balance Class will not receive a home assessment from First Community’s Falls Prevention Service. This is only available for patients who have had one or more episodes of falls within the last 12 months with at least one requiring medical attention due to a fall or report recurrent falls.
