An online tool designed to help adults feel more confident about their balance and mobility has been launched in east Surrey hosted by First Community.
The ‘Steady on Your Feet’ website and interactive self-assessment tool is part of an NHS national campaign to help reduce falls. The east Surrey Ageing Well Steering Group have supported First Community to develop this tool to help prevent falls and support individuals to maintain their independence.
The website provides a range of advice, guidance, videos and online resources for anyone worried about falling. The site aims to provide users with the confidence to maintain their mobility and reduce the risk of falls. There is information on managing hazards in the home, diet tips, exercises, support groups and partner organisations who can help support.
One of the main benefits of this new website is an online assessment which generates an individual action plan to reduce the risk of falls. The assessment can be completed by the individual at risk of a fall or anyone they wish to help them (friend, career etc). The tool is highly recommended by health professionals to help people maintain their mobility and reduce the risk of falls in their day-to-day activities.
Allison Kandiah, Clinical Lead for Long Term Conditions Support Services, First Community said: “This new website is a fantastic resource to help people overcome the fear and risk of a fall. There is a wealth of easy-to-read guidance available as well as the tailored online assessment which produces a plan to help individuals based on their specific information .”
Katherine Saunders, Co-Chair of East Surrey Ageing Well Steering Group said:
“Falls and fractures are a common and often serious health issue faced by older people in England. People aged 65 plus have the highest risk of falling. Falling is a cause of pain, injury, anxiety, loss of confidence, loss of independence and mortality. Often falls can be avoided.
This easy to use, interactive tool supports our vision of preventative, holistic care for East Surrey residents as they age, enabling people to live at home as long as possible. The website provides simple steps to stay active, independent and reduce the risk of a fall. I encourage all those who feel they may be at risk of a fall or who have experienced a fall to access this valuable resource.”
