
The results of the annual NHS Staff survey 2024 have been released and show that First Community remains an excellent provider of NHS care to work for.
Sarah Tomkins, Chief Executive said: “I am again delighted by the high standards of our results, many of which are the highest across the board.
First-rate care by first-rate people at first-rate value underpins everything we do at First Community. Our mission is to work in partnership with people living and working in our community to deliver outstanding lifelong local NHS healthcare, supporting everyone to achieve their potential. These results clearly show we are achieving our mission, for example:
- 93% of our staff agree that care of patients / service users is the organisation’s top priority (compared to 91.8% last year)
- 91% of staff said that if a friend or relative needed treatment they would be happy with the standard of care provided by First Community (compared to 89.4% last year)
- 85% of staff feel confident that First Community would address concerns about unsafe clinical practice (compared to 63% survey average)
- 83% of staff would recommend First Community as a place to work (compared to 61% survey average).
Sarah continued “ In Our Plan (the first community business plan) we have a focus on People which recognises that people are our greatest asset, and we want to retain the workforce we have, recruit the best people to support delivery of first-rate care and to ensure that all staff feel valued, safe and supported. This will ensure our patients receive the best care possible.
I am very grateful to the 67% of staff who took the time to participate and for their honesty in identifying areas in which we can also improve. We will again reconvene our internal staff survey working group to work on ideas for improvement.
I will continue to focus on getting all scores closer to 100%! I am so proud to be Chief Executive First Community and will support all colleagues to be the best they can be. We will innovate, collaborate, and learn to ensure every staff member and patient reach their full potential.
First Community, like many others are facing another year of significant cost pressures and continued high demand for services. I am confident that we are ready for the challenges ahead and will constantly look for opportunities to develop our people and the service we provide.
